Project Engineer
Reports to: Projects Lead
Job Description
This office-based role is located at our new, state-of-the-art, and spacious offices and involves managing large-scale instrumentation projects for engineering contractors. The projects involve a primarily focus on offerings from across our complete product range, but could also include bought-in instrumentation and accessories such as valves, brackets, bypass chambers, magnetic level gauges, control panels, and other related equipment (with some components designed in-house).
As a Project Engineer, your core responsibility is to conduct a comprehensive review of bid documents, understanding customers’ technical requirements and specification documents. Using this information, you will liaise with the sales team, and prepare on their behalf, detailed technical quotations through the company’s CRM and product database, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project needs.
Given the complex nature of some of the projects, you may also be required to address technical queries and clarifications from customers after they have reviewed our proposals. Therefore, a strong technical understanding of level, pressure, and radiometric instrumentation is essential - comprehensive and ongoing training will be given.
This role requires regular interaction with both colleagues and customers, making excellent communication skills and technical expertise vital. You will play an integral role in ensuring the smooth operation of the department, contributing to the successful execution of high-value engineering projects.
Main duties
- To handle enquiries from customers on both technical and commercial matters.
- To prepare project quotations in accordance with the enquiry requirements.
- To process project orders and generate purchase orders for project orders.
- To engineer projects to meet customer expectations on a cost effective basis.
- To compile contract documentation and data dossiers including drawings, certification and other documents in a timely fashion to ensure completion of contract and customer satisfaction.
- To attend project meetings (either at customer sites or online) when required.
- To work with the Projects Lead in all aspects of sales support and marketing of the product range.
- Inspection and quality checking of supplier orders.
- To maintain excellent and timely communication to all stakeholders and to support other departments within the company.
- To maintain accurate records defined by the Projects Lead
Essential and Key Skills
- Technical (engineering or physical science / mechanical) background to a higher further education standards. The ability to keep up to date and learn new subjects and discuss technical matters confidently with others.
- Some experience with engineering, instrumentation and production-related disciplines or industries.
- Well motivated and able to work in a team as well as using own initiative
- Sound organizational skills with a methodical approach to handling simultaneous projects
- Capability to handle associated documentation in both paper and electronic format.
- Good Commercial awareness and be able to work to deadlines and schedules.
- Excellent communication skills with customers, suppliers and colleagues; face to face, in writing and remote meetings or email and with colleagues in an office environment.
- Comprehensive computer skills including Windows and standard Microsoft programs such as Word, Outlook and Excel.
- A knowledge of Autocad (2D) and/or Adobe Illustrator / similar drawing packages or willingness to be trained, to prepare engineering drawings and vessel / schematic layouts.

Location
This position is full-time (35 hours) and based at the Maresfield office of VEGA Controls Ltd in East Sussex.
